Springtime smoothies!

It’s springtime and eating healthy is always a good idea! Today, we want to give you some smoothie recipes using seasonal fruits.

Smoothies are easy and quick to make, they are healthy,  they will boost your energy for the day, and they are the perfect option if you are having trouble getting your recommended daily allowance of fruits in.

If you want to eat more fresh food and focus on healthier ways to get your 5-a-day, you should buy fruits that are in season! Eating in-season fruits is an easy way to save money and enjoy a better taste, it’s definitely worth it. If you see a fave fruit at a great price, you don’t have to pass it up. You can always freeze a couple of portions to use for later-  this is especially good for smoothie making!

Spring fruits are: Cherries, strawberries, oranges, apricots and avocados. Each of them have benefits for your health!

Using cherries

Cherries are good for your heart! They are high in potassium which regulates your heart rate

For this cherry smoothie you will need :

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup frozen cherries
  • 1 banana
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup vanilla yogurt

Using strawberries

Strawberries boost fibre which is necessary for healthy digestion- they contain 2g of fiber per serving.

For this strawberry smoothie you will need:

  •  1½ cup frozen strawberries
  •  ½ cup nonfat plain yogurt
  •  1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Sweetener (of your choice)

Using oranges

Oranges contain high amounts of vitamin C which is good for your skin.

For this orange smoothie you will need:

  •  2 frozen bananas
  •  1 cup orange juice
  •  1 orange
  •  ¾ cup almond milk
  •   1 carrot

Using apricots

Apricots are a source of Vitamin A which is great for your eyesight.

For this apricot smoothie you will need:

  •   2 cups apricots
  •   1 cup pineapple
  •  1 cup fresh strawberries
  •  1 cup cold water

Using avocados

Avocados contain Vitamin K which is essential for your bone health.

For this avocado smoothie you will need:

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 2 cups coconut water
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 12 ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Dash of salt

Add all the ingredients into your blender and enjoy!
